A Practical Guide to E-Invoicing in Egypt

العربية

2026-07-11 — الادمن

E-invoicing is now mandatory for every company registered with the Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA). Non-compliance means rejected cost deductions and blocked input VAT credit, so treating it as optional is expensive.

What is an e-invoice?

It is a digitally signed document proving a sale of goods or services. It is submitted to the ETA platform in near real time and receives a unique reference (UUID) before it is handed to the customer.

Registration steps

  1. Submit a joining request through your local tax office.
  2. Obtain an electronic signature token from an accredited provider.
  3. Create and activate an account on the e-invoicing portal.
  4. Code your goods and services using GS1 or internal EGS codes.
  5. Connect your accounting system or ERP through the API, or upload manually.

Common mistakes

  • Item codes that do not match the actual description of the item.
  • Submitting after the allowed window, so the platform rejects the document.
  • Mixing discount values with tax values when splitting invoice lines.
  • Letting the signature token expire instead of renewing it early.

Bottom line

Early compliance saves your company penalties and retroactive reviews. The Taxera team handles registration, item coding, and the integration between your accounting system and the platform end to end.
